Padraig Harrington is looking to land his second PGA championship this weekend at Baltusrol but the three-time major winner has admitted that he would choose Olympic gold over another major victory.
The Dubliner’s preference, of course, would be to win both, but Harrington has really bought into the idea of golf at the Olympics and the Rio event is very much in his mind ahead of a fourth major.
“To be honest, if someone was offering me this major or an Olympic gold medal, I think winning the Olympic gold medal would add more to my career,” said Harrington, speaking to RTE Sport.
“It would be great to win this one and the Olympics. If I was to pick one, an Olympic gold medal is something different and for the vast majority of the population of this world, it would certainly be a bigger achievement to win a gold medal than it would be a major tournament.”
And Harrington appears very happy with his game ahead of the final major of the year, with the Olympic Games to come next month.
“I don’t need to play any better. I’m not trying to do anything different than I did in the last four weeks. I’d be very happy if I played the same way as I played at The Open.”
