Joint first-round leader Shane Lowry now finds himself seven shots behind New Zealand's Danny Lee after the penultimate round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

The Offaly man fired a one-over-par 72 to add to his opening round of 65 and his 70 in the second round to sit on six-under-par for the Arizona event.

Lee holds a three-shot lead at the top of the leaderboard after carding a 67, which consisted of six birdies and two bogeys to take his place on 13 under at TPC Scottsdale on a day when a crowd of 201,003 turned up to set a new record for golf’s highest attendance on a single day.

His nearest competition is Japan's Hideki Matsuyama and world number four Rickie Fowler, who are both on 10 under.

Matsuyama struck a 68 while Fowler scored a 70, but both men will need to score better on the final round if they are to catch Lee.

Overnight leader James Hahn had a day to forget as he slipped out of contention with a three-over-par 74.

The American, who held a one-shot lead at the midway point of the tournament, carded two double bogeys and three bogeys to leave him six shots adrift.

America's Bryce Molder was the biggest mover on the day as he holed eight birdies in his 64 to move up to nine under.

A blemish-free 65 from Phil Mickelson saw him card a 65 and he will hope to gatecrash the final-day party on eight under.
