Wicklow's Paul Dunne has secured his European Tour card for next season after a final round 72 at the qualifying school in Girona.

Dunne, who leapt to prominence after a terrific performance in this year's Open Championship, had to come through the entire qualifying process to secure his card.

He played 14 rounds in total, beginning with four rounds in Austria in September and four rounds last week before the final six in this part of the process.

Peter Lawrie, Damien McGrane, Simon Thornton, Kevin Phelan, Ruaidhri McGee and Brian Casey missed out on a place.

In total, 34 Irish players attempted to win a spot on the Tour but only Dunne emerged with the card.

Ulrich van den Berg, Adrian Otaegui and Daniel Im were crowned joint-winners of European Tour's qualifying school final stage,

The trio, who finished on 18-under par after the six-day marathon at the PGA Catalunya Resort, were among 27 players to have been awarded their cards for 2016.
