American Peter Malnati clinched his first PGA Tour title after a bogey-free back nine in the final round helped him secure the Sanderson Farms Championship.
After bad weather and light on Sunday forced play to be held off until Monday, it was Malnati's compatriot Roberto Castro who led the way with 12 holes of his third round still to play, but three bogeys in four holes left him with much work to do.
Malnati took full advantage as he went into the clubhouse on 18 under par after firing a five-under 67 for the day. His run included two bogeys in the first nine, but he grew in confidence to pick up shots on the 11th, 12th and 15th before holing for par on the 18th.
He faced a nervous wait while the others completed their rounds and could well have been forced into a play-off, but William McGirt saw a crucial birdie putt on the 18th stop one inch from the hole.
David Toms was tied for second with fellow American McGirt, with Castro among five tied for fourth, as Malnati celebrated becoming the fifth first-time winner this season in five events.
Malnati said on Sky Sports 4: "This year I don't feel like I'm here as a surprise. I feel like I belong here. This year it feels like business.
"I definitely have a plan for sure. I have a practice schedule that I'm in a habit of keeping. I did that on the web.com tour. I have my practice schedules laid out, that's my keys to success.
"A lot of people have (their keys to success), mine is following my plan and being strict with myself about it."
