Damien McGrane is the best of the Irish after three rounds of the Porsche European Open in Germany, trailing leader Thongchai Jaidee by nine shots.

McGrane managed a level par round to stay on four under in Bad Griesbach while the veteran Thai golfer surged up the field.

The 45-year-old, a six-time winner on the European Tour, carded eight birdies and just a solitary bogie, an impressive performances that sees him lead ahead of Sunday’s fourth and final round by one shot.

Englishman Ross Fisher ended day three in a share of second place, one shot off the leader's pace, along with Sweden's Pelle Edberg, who carded a best-of-the-day 63, and Graeme Storm.

Storm, an Englishman from Hartlepool whose lone European Tour victory came eight years ago in France, also briefly reached 13 under par before finding water with his approach to the last.

Welshman Jamie Donaldson was lurking just another shot further back ahead of a potentially gripping final day in Bavaria.
