Paul Dunne is through to the last 32 of the US Amateur Championship at Olympia Fields in Chicago.

In what was a tight match, Dunne beat Robbie Ziegler of the United States by two holes.

The pair could not be separated over the first eight holes as they were both tied on level par before Dunne took a two-shot lead by winning the 9th and 12th holes.

Ziegler fought back, drawing level as he took the 13th and 15th holes but Dunne held his nerve and went back in front at the 16th before wrapping up the victory by winning the final hole.

Elsewhere at the Irish Close Championship in Tramore, Robbie Cannon is the leading qualifier for the matchplay stage which begin tomorrow.
