American veteran Jim Furyk birdied three of his last five holes to go eight under par and open up a four-shot lead at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio.
Shane Lowry holds second place on four under after picking up four shots in his round of 66. He's alongside Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson on that mark.
Graeme McDowell is in a three-way share of fifth place on three under with Kiwi Danny Lee and Sweden's Henrik Stenson. He posted a round of one over 71 today.
Padraig Harrington finished on four over par after a two over 72 and he's tied for 49th place.
McDowell, whose sole top-ten finish all season came in Dubai in February, carded two bogeys and one birdie at Firestone Country Club to set the early clubhouse target on three under par.
Lowry, who carded an opening 70 on Thursday, recorded four birdies and one bogey to reach the turn in 32 and added birdies on the 11th and 15th to move to five under par for his round and the tournament, just three off the pace.
Lowry bogeyed the 18th after his approach from the rough flew over the green, but the resulting 66 left him in joint second.
The 28-year-old finished 77th in the 80-strong field on his debut in 1999 - the year he won the Irish Open while still an amateur - and was 48th in 2013, but said: "This is one of the courses I came to when I had just turned pro and when you come back six years later I am definitely a much better player. My mental game and maturity is a lot better as well.
"At this stage in '09 I was 16 over par so it's a big difference."
