Australian Matt Jones and Brandt Snedeker hold the lead at the midway stage of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Jones fired a six-under-par 66 and Snedeker a 67 as they took over at the head of the leaderboard from joint first round leader Justin Hicks, whose 68 left him a shot behind the pair.

Snedeker, a six-times PGA Tour winner, has slipped outside the top 50 in the world rankings and is not exempt for the Masters in April - but a return to form could change that.

Jason Day had the round of the day, moving to within three shots of the lead with a nine-under-par 62. The Australian had an eagle and eight birdies but marred his card with a bogey at the 18th.

However, two players who impressed on Thursday failed to maintain the momentum.

JB Holmes, who shared the lead with Hicks after the first round, drop six shots off the pace as a result of a 73. Alongside him is Jon Daly - the 48-year-old two-time major champion followed his opening round 65 with a 72.

Germany's Alex Cejka was the leading European at the midway point on eight under, with Ireland's Shane Lowry seven under and England's Ian Poulter five under. Ireland's Padraig Harrington was a shot further adrift alongside England's Brian Davis.

However, Greg Owen was one over after a second round 74, while Ireland's Paul McGinley could only manage a 76 which left him on four over.
