Harris English finally dropped some shots and with them dropped into a share of the lead going into the final day of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.
English had made it through his opening two rounds without a blemish on his scorecard, but that came to a sudden end on the fourth hole on Saturday with a double bogey.
After he dropped another shot on the 16th, he signed for a 73, allowing JB Holmes to take a share of the lead.
Holmes had three bogeys of his own but cleaned up on the longer holes, carding seven birdies to go round in 68.
Shane Lowry shot a level-par 72 to end the day on three under par, in a share of 32nd position.
English and Holmes are on nine under at the top of the leaderboard, one shot clear of a five-way tie for third featuring Lucas Glover, Jimmy Walker, Spencer Levin, Chad Campbell, and Nick Watney.
Watney dropped back from second place with a round of 72, but others suffered more.
Scotland's Martin Laird had been in a tie with Watney and Jhonattan Vegas overnight, but while Vegas fell to joint-eighth with a round of 73, Laird suffered six bogeys on his way to a 76 which saw him plummet to a share of 21st place.
