India's Jyoti Randhawa led by one shot after the first round of the Hong Kong Open after carding a six-under-par 64.
Randhawa shot seven birdies and a bogey to hold a slender lead over Angelo Que of the Philippines, who had five birdies in a flawless round.
Of the Irish involved, Damien McGrane and Kevin Phelan are one under after rounds of 69, with Peter Lawrie a shot further back.
"For me, it's really awesome to get off to such a good start because I've been playing decent in the last few weeks but haven't been able to put up a good number," Randhawa said after the opening round.
"Today I really putted my heart out, so I'm really happy with the way it went, and I'm glad I got the pace on the greens right.
"I've had some decent finishes on the Asian Tour and I am really just trying to get four rounds together. Hopefully this week, if I can do that, it will be great. I'm very happy with the way I played today and happy with how the new swing is working."
England's James Heath and South African Ernie Els, making his debut in the tournament, were in a group of nine on four under.
Heath shot five birdies and a bogey, while Els, a four-time major winner, had six birdies and two bogeys.
Defending champion Miguel Angel Jimenez's bid to win a record fifth Hong Kong Open title was hampered by suspected food poisoning.
The Spaniard could only manage a two-over 72.
