Leaders must wait as BMW Championship to go into extra day after heavy rain hits final round

The BMW Championship will have a Monday finish after torrential rain swept across Conway Farms Golf Club in Illinois on Sunday, forcing final-round play to be suspended. 

Four players managed to complete their final round - Rory McIlroy among them - when the siren sounded to usher the field back into the clubhouse.

Play did resume but was soon suspended again. 

Overnight leader Jim Furyk (-13) and second-placed Steve Stricker  (-12) were among the players yet to start their final rounds

McIlroy fired a second successive three-under-par 68 to finish at seven-over 291, having languished last after 36 holes.

That marked the end of McIlroy's 2013 PGA Tour campaign as he failed to qualify for the elite 30-man field for next week's Tour Championship in Atlanta, the final play-off event.
