The Nelson Mandela Championship will launch next season's European Tour and will be one of six events in South Africa.

With the venue still to be confirmed, the tournament will be on 6-9 December and will be followed a week later by the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek.

After the Christmas and New Year break the circuit will return for the Volvo Golf Champions on 10-13 January, the Joburg Open on 7-10 February, the Africa Open at East London a week later and then the new Tshwane Open at Copperleaf for 28 February to 3 March.

Keith Waters, Chief Operating Officer and Director of International Policy for the European Tour, said: "We are delighted to be able to have two new events in South Africa and six overall, especially in such challenging economic times.

"We hope to announce the remainder of the initial sector of our schedule early next month."
