Rickie Fowler claimed his maiden PGA Tour title as he won the Wells Fargo Championship in a play-off against DA Points and Rory McIlroy, who went back to the top of the rankings.
The trio finished 14 under for the tournament, one stroke ahead of local boy Webb Simpson, and went into a one-hole play-off at the 18th
And it was Fowler who came out on top, his birdies bettering the pars of Points and McIlroy, who nevertheless did enough to go back ahead of Luke Donald in the world list.
Fowler's only prior victory as a pro was last October at the Kolon Korea Open, where he held off McIlroy.
McIlroy will return to number one in the world golf rankings thanks to his performance here.
He needed only a top-seven finish to regain the top spot from the absent Luke Donald, who had seized it from McIlroy just last week.
McIlroy missed a tricky putt to win the tournament before the play-of in a round of 70 as had to settle for being runner-up in the tournament he claimed victory in two years ago.
