It is expected that Carton House will be confirmed as the venue for the 2012 Irish Open.
Newspaper reports today suggested it would announced as the venue for the event when the European Tour schedule was released today.
However, the schedule was revealed with the Irish Open still described as 'to be confirmed'.
The 2011 event at Killarney Golf Fishing Club only went ahead with backing from the European Tour and Fáilte Ireland. The Kerry course had hoped to host it for a third year in a row but the European Tour is thought to be keen to secure a venue closer to Dublin.
The event will take place from 28 June to 1 July in 2012 having been been moved back five weeks to avoid a clash with the London Olympics. The new date means it will take place three weeks before the Open Championship.
Rory McIlroy recently provided a boost for the event by announcing that he would play in the event despite it clashing with a PGA Tour tournament at Congressional, scene of his US Open victory earlier this year.
Carton House previously hosted the event in 2005 and 2006.
Killeen Castle and Druids Glen were among the other venues thought to be in the running to host this year's tournament.
Recent Solheim Cup venue Killeen Castle will host the AIB Ladies Open for the third time in early August. The Ladies European Tour schedule was announced today and the event will take place at the Co Meath course from 3 August to 5 August.
