Rory McIlroy revealed on Saturday he had received a message from US Open champion Graeme McDowell after establishing a four-shot lead at The Masters - saying he loved him.
'I don't know if that's the beer talking or just him,' said McIlroy, who will be trying to win his first major 10 months after fellow Northern Irishman McDowell won his at Pebble Beach.
His Ryder Cup teammate had missed the cut, but stayed on to walk the course as McIlroy birdied three of the last six holes to break clear of the field on 12 under par.
'I really appreciate his support,' added the 21-year-old, who would be the second youngest winner of the title after Tiger Woods if he hangs on tomorrow.
'He got it done and hopefully I can emulate that feat.'
