0240 Well that's it now from Pebble Beach. No extra play-off day required as Graeme McDowell remains the only golfer not to stray over par and secures US Open success in California. Celebrations are set to kick-off for Team G-Mac at Pebble Beach and to continue a bit longer into the early hours up in Portrush. Congratulations again, Graeme.
And it's goodnight from me...
0235 Greg Allen on Twitter. 'He's done it. Wow,' says Greg.
0230 So there you have it. Another golf Major winner for Ireland to continue this new trend started by young Paddy Harrington a few years ago at the Open. That's the Ryder Cup place in the bag and now St Andrews has to be on McDowell's radar.
0226 McDowell has shed the cardigan for the prize-giving ceremony and looks cool as ever in his pink t-shirt. Takes the cup and hugs it before kissing it and raising it over his head. Thanks everyone and all the Irish out on the course who respond with a little chorus of Ole Ole Ole, of course. 'A dream come true,' says McDowell. 'You always dream of having two putts to win the US Open.'
0218 Emotional scenes here as McDowell celebrates with his father, manager and caddy. A one-shot victory over France's Gregory Havret with Ernie, Phil and Tiger just behind. Off to sign his card and back in a few minutes for the presentations.
0215 Picks up ball - cleans it - puts it down - sticks it in the hole. MCDOWELL WINS THE US OPEN.......Congratulations G-Mac. Major Champion.
0215 Here goes. Rolls it down to the hole and it's.... short by a foot.
0211 Short walk up to the green and Johnson will probably putt first for eagle. This would give him a three over finish which is not what he thought would be his position at the start of play today. Misses eagle may get a birdie. Putt was about same length as McDowell's so should give him a good idea of the speed required. Johnson settles for a par to finish on five over - a disastrous day for Johnson.
0210 Lands on the green to give him two shots to get down from about 25 feet. Should win it from here but not certain yet.
0209 McDowell decides to lay up and has 80 yards to the pin. Three shots to be a Major winner.
0206 Havret knocks it in for par to sign for a one over tournament finish. McDowell needs a par to win the tournament. Looks like he is going to lay up after a lengthy chat with the caddy.
0204 Here goes Havret for a birdie. Tiger signs for three over. Havret stands over the putt........Misses below the hole and stops three feet past. Miss this one back and it's McDowell's, you would think.
0202 Havret plops it onto the green with a great chance for birdie. Nail biting stuff.
0200 McDowell on the 18th tee. Driver in hand. He's looking to attack this. Sneaks past the two fairway trees and lands in the short rough. Great shot. Can reach the green in two.
0159 Havret finds the sand on 18 and has a gettable up and down to birdie the last to go level with McDowell.
0157 McDowell onto the green but fifteen feet to save par. Huge putt here for McDowell. Sink this and he has half the job done. But misses outside the cup and drops back to even par. Els has finished on two over, Mickelson finished on three over.
0155 A two horse race now for sure. Havret will need a birdie, I'd imagine to secure a play-off. Will he try a Tiger on the 18th and attack the green with his second?
0150 McDowell follows Havret into the bunker and needs a very good up and down here to save par and give himself a bit of a cushion on the last. Havret hits a sweet drive up the 18th so all to play for here.
0147 Havret's bunker shot looked, for a split second, like it was going to go straight in but rolls about ten feet past. And misses the par putt to give McDowell a two-shot lead with two to play.
0144 McDowell putts uphill straight at the hole and misses by two inches. Great effort and a tap in par. Getting nervous for the G-Mac here but he looks as cool as you like. Els teeing off on the 18th on two over. I'd say he needs an eagle here to be in with a shout.
0143 Havret hitting a four iron on the par three 17th. Finds the bunker and gets a lucky kick back into the middle of the bunker which should leave him with a gettable up and down.
0140 Those player-side microphones really get you up close and personal with these golfers. McDowell and caddy here discussing a club selection. G-Mac wants to his a seven because he likes the shape while the caddy is telling him it's an eight as there is no wind. Caddy wins and length looks right as ball lands on the green but a monster birdie putt ahead. A bit longer than Havret's so a two-putt will do here. But it is three putt territory.
0138 Great par putt for Tiger on the 16th to stay on three over. Could really have done with a few of those putts back down the course.
0134 How close was that. McDowell would have heard a huge ooooh aaaaw as Havret misses by an inch from a good twenty yards. Taps in par as he heads over to the 17th. Els is in the bunker on the 17th so will need a birdie on the last to be in with a shout. Level par would be a in with a good shout of a play-off, which would be another 18 holes on Monday.
0133 That's about as middle of the fairway as you can get it as G-Mac pumps it down the 16th. Havret just up ahed and McDowell doesn't want to hear a bit cheers here as Havret lines up his birdie attempt.
0130 McDowell gets to within birdie range on the 15th with a lovely approach. Havret is safely on the 16th but a huge birdie putt lies ahead. G-Mac is sure it is in bu it skulks past the hole. That was so so close for McDowell. Hopefully, he doesn't dwell on it.
0126 Els has great birdie attempt on the 16th from at least thirty yards and misses by a few inches. Mickelson looks out of it on three over with two to play.
0122 Likewise with Mickelson on the 16th as he finds the thick rough after attacking the flag. 'Took a chance, Bones, but it didn't pay off' says Phil to caddie who appears to go by the name of Bones.
0120 It's a one shot lead as McDowell's putt comes up short. Havret has just played a sublime bunker shot and should make par. Not a two horse race just yet but it's starting to look like that. Woods has probably missed his last chance to make a charge just missing a birdie on 15. Tiger stays on three over. Still think anything under par will win this tournament.
0115 Els misses an easy birdie chance and that would have got him back to within touching distance of McDowell. Havret has just found sand on the 15th so looks like nobody wants to win this tournament. McDowell has been the most consistent all day. He's putting back up the hill here and it has flown past the flag and the TV commentators are shouting at the ball to stop, which it does, eventually. Get up and mark it quickly, they plea. Huge par putt here for Graeme, otherwise it's a one-shot lead with four to play. Agggghhhh.
0110 McDowell finds the fairway bunker on 14. A good wedge out gets him to within an eight iron of the green on this tricky par five. McDowell's third goes straight at the flag and a little less club would have been perfect but it has gone through and leaves a horrible fourth shot which is likely to end all the way down the hill on the other side of the flag. Huge shot here for McDowell.
0108 Havret almost pops it straight in at the 14th. Hits the flag and stays out. Tiger plays an equally impressive bunker shot on 14 to within a foot.
0105 Latest tweet from our man, Greg Allen at Pebble Beach. 'Think I'm getting nervous. Such big shots coming up ..3rd to 14..tee shot on 17..tee shot on 18..approach to 18.. greens drying out.' We feel your pain, Greg. Follow Greg here.
0103 McDowell hits to within eight feet on the 13th with a great chance for a birdie but misreads the line and the ball refuses to fall in. Another par though. Five more and it's yours, Graeme.
0101 Els' putt breaks too early and that's a shot gone as the Big Easy drops to one over. McDowell will be very happy to hear the deafening silences up ahead as Mickelson drops another back to two over.
0059 Watson misses an easy three footer but then finishes off as the ball almost does a lap of the circumference before dropping. Watson then laughs and launches his ball into the ocean. Goodnight and good luck.
0058 Ernie still lurking in the long grass but his third onto the par five 14th stopped on the greeen in birdie range but then rolls all the way back down and around the corner leaving him with a very tricky up and down to find par. And then Mickelson does the exact same thing.
0055 Great scenes as golfing legend Tom Watson makes his way onto the 18th green. Tears in his eyes as it is likely to be his swan song at the US Open. And wouldn't you know, Watson almost chips in from the greenside bunker. You the man, Tom.
0053 McDowell hits a textbook wedge out of the sand to within two feet of the hole and pops in the par putt to remain two under with six to play.
0050 There is a great battle going on for the top amateur. Russell Henly is eight over going up the 18th, while Scott Langley is in the clubhouse on eight over so Henly needs a birdie to take the medal. Has to settle for a par but is loving it out there enjoying his moment of fame on the 18th green.
0046 Johnson drops another to go two over. So now it's McDowell by two from Els and Havret. Els has five to play, McDowell has just put his tee shot into the bunker on the par three 12th. At least it's beneath the pin so could easily get up and down from here.
0043 Birdie chance on the 11th for McDowell just misses. Another par and I think McDowell would take another eight pars no worries. If he can do that, I'd imagine he'll be champion but it's a long long way away at this stage.
0036 Seems like the Sky boys got it wrong about Harrington - appears he finished on nine over so must have birdied the last. Tied for 22nd at the moment. Brandt Snedeker is on a bit of a hot streak at the moment and has moved into seventh place on three over.
0029 Dustin Johnson taps in for par and looks to have steadied the ship. Only four off the lead and maybe only three if McDowell cannot save par here. Meanwhile, Mickelson seems to be hitting good shot-bad shot-good shot- bad shot. McDowell is short and sees another shot go west.
0027 McDowell has to chip on at 10 for his third shot and doesn't stop when it goes past the hole - in fact it goes off the green leaving McDowell with about 15 feet to save par - at least this one is uphill.
0018 Bogey for Woods and Havret so McDowell still leads by three. Mickelson finds the sand on the 12th but Els almost aces it and should make birdie. Harrington signs off on the 18th with a two over 73 to finish the tournament on nine over - that's tied for 26th at the moment. May sneak into the top 20 with a few more Dustin Johnson implosions perhaps.
0015 Nice bunker shot by G-Mac but a good 15 feet to save par. Luckily no one appears to be capable of putting a bit of a run together with putts being missed all over the place. Here goes McDowell for par....just short. That's the first dropped shot of the day so level par for the front nine. Not bad indeed.
0009 Tiger short of the green again and will stay on two over at best as he finishes the tenth - looks like he's struggling to find his ball actually. McDowell also drops short on the ninth and will do well to save par here. Tiger finds ball and gets it to within 15 foot. Need to drop that to avoid fifth bogey in ten holes.
0006 Spare a thought for poor Paddy Harrington who has just reached double figures. How he would love to be in McDowell's position now. Instead he is coming down the final hole looking for a birdie to get back to single digits. Poulter and Donald are doing even worse both are after signing for a 78...Ouch.
0002 What a delicate putt that was as McDowell drops a ten footer for par, downhill it trickled home. That was a huge putt for the Portrush man. Three clear now with ten to play.
0000 Nicely out of the bunker there for McDowell leaving a tricky ten footer for par. Els has just dropped two to drop back to level. Only McDowell and Havret under par now. Safety seems to be the buzz word now and no one appears better at this than McDowell.
2356 McDowell finds sand for the first time leaving his approach to the eighth short. Should get out easy enough but may drop one here.
2354 Ernie found the ball but couldn't play it. Then hits his third into the long rough short of the green. May lose two shots here.
2351 Ernie Els is side-stepping his way down the cliff towards the beach to search for his missing ball. Tread softly there, Ernie. Bit of a drop there below.
2348 Bogey for Havret on the eighth. All the easy holes have now been played according to the Sky Sports commentator. Makes for a very exciting back nine. Another shot dropped for Johnson - that's seven over after seven and one over for the tournament. McDowell drops another six footer for par. He is so safe with those tricky 5-10 foot putts.
2345 G-Mac safely onto the very short par three seventh. Long birdie chance but a par will always be decent on this hole.
2340 McDowell scrambles a great par on the par five sixth to stay clear of the pack. No movers recently and Els is in a bit of bother on the ninth with a twenty foot par effort. In fact, Els goes past the hole and drops back to two under. That's McDowell two clear.
2330 Els drops a ten-footer to save par. Tiger getting back in the groove on the very short seventh popping in a birdie from 20 feet.
2328 McDowell powers his birdie attempt straight at the hole and it drops in for birdie and the outright lead. Very confident putt there by G-Mac, great stuff.
2325 Another birdie for Gregory Havret who is tipping along very nicely now only one shot behind the leading pair. Tiger just misses out on a birdie and remains on two over. Needs to play the back nine like he did yesterday if he is to have a chance.
2319 Another steady par for McDowell and another shot lost for Johnson. On to the long par three fifth and McDowell hits to within 10 feet of the hole. Great birdie chance here.
2311 McDowell playing very steady golf and chips a nice second shot onto the fourth green for a 20-foot birdie chance. He has to forget about Johnson beside him and now listen to the roars from the crowds around the players ahead of him.
2306 Eagle putt for Els here to take the outright lead and leap -frog McDowell. Ooh just short and a tap-in birdie puts Ernie on three under with McDowell. Johnson's nightmare continues on the fourth as his ball disappears down the cliff en route to the Pacific Ocean. Ball is perched about fourty feet down the cliff.
2304 McDowell chases a long putt uphill at the hole but leaves it five foot shy. The Portrush man has been very consistent with anything within ten feet so he should make par here. Johnson on the other hand has just made a very respectable six considering his opening effort. McDowell putts for par to lead on his own now as Johnson drops back to one under.
2302 Ernie Els is looking very tasty indeed. Only a shot off the lead now and looking cool and calm - indeed even his all-beige outfit is soothing in itself
2253 McDowell safely onto the third green - long birdie chance ahead. Johnson in deep discussions with officials about the status of his ball. It cannot be found so he makes the golfing walk of shame back to the tee box to hit his third. I say walk, but you know it means hitch a lift on a nearby buggy. Nightmare for Johnson. McDowell must be feeling rather chipper now but he will know as well how things can go badly wrong on this course.
2248 Johnson slams his drive into the crowd on the third. Has to hope he has a favourable lie down there. Mickelson three putts on the fourth to turn an eagle chance into a par.
2245 Triple bogey for Johnson and he drops back to three under alongside McDowell who secured par. That will get his heart racing now and a steady next hole is essential or else he may implode. Tiger has sunk a great 15 footer to make par on the third.
2242 McDowell over-cooks his birdie attempt and the ball rolls five feet past to leave a very tricky par putt. Tiger, of course, gets himself out of trouble with a monster slog out of the long grass and chips on to give himself a very good chance to save par.
2240 Mickelson drives the green on the short par four. Eagle chance there. Tiger on the other hand, has hit a huge shank into the woods on the third. Johnson is buried in rough at the second green and plays lefthanded but the ball just pops out into the lighter rough. Should drop at least one shot here. At least I say. His fourth shot sees the club go completely under the ball, which just jumps six inches in the air and back to the same spot.
2235 Mickelson has started well. A birdie on the first brings him back to level par and he has just hit an unbelieveable approach to the third out of a fairway bunker. Just misses out on birdie. Again McDowell safe on the second fairway and gets a nice bounce onto the green which flies just past the hole. A good thirty footer there for a birdie.
2230 McDowell leaves his putt three feet short and finishes off for a par on the first. Harrington meanwhile is still one over for the day at the turn. Eight over for the tournament.
2221 Birdie for Ernie Els on the second moves the Big Easy under-par. Tiger thumps his drive down the middle of the second hole.
2220 Three putt for Tiger on the first sees him drop a shot back to level par. Nervous Tiger? Doubt it.
2215 McDowell about to tee off. Looking very smart in light blue/grey cardigan, amost an air of Federer in his dress sense - good thing or bad thing?? Either way, he smashes it straight down the fairway. Great start. Johnson next up. Just off the fairway - no danger.
2210 All the big boys are just starting now. Phil, Tiger, Ernie, have all departed the first tee. McDowell and Johnson making their way to the first tee right now.
2115 One man who has found a bit of form, albeit three days too late is the likeable Englishman Lee Westwood who is three under for the day after nine holes, bringing him to the periphery of the top ten on five over. I'd say he hates that 'likeable' tag.
2110 Pay-dreg is three holes into his final round and has dropped a shot early doors. That's how they're pronouncing Harrington's name on Sky Sports these days. I think I prefer the American translation where they just call him plain old Paddy. Either way, he's now eight over after three holes. Needs to go on a bit of a streak if he wants a top ten finish.
2100 It's D-Day for the G-Mac as the final round of the US Open gets underway at Pebble Beach in California. The stragglers are out on the course and there is Irish interest from start to finish.
Gareth Maybin has already completed his final round and signed for a four-over 75 to finish on 16 over. It may look like a shoddy score but Maybin will have to be happy with his weekend. He was consistent over the four rounds hitting 74 75 76 75 so a very solid tournament for the Belfast man.
