Rosie Jones has been named as the captain of the United States team for the 2011 Solheim Cup which will be played in Ireland.

Jones, a 13-time winner on the LPGA Tour who played seven times for her country in the Solheim Cup, will lead the team which faces Europe at Killeen Castle in County Meath from 23-25 September next year.

'I am honoured and absolutely ecstatic to be chosen as the 2011 Solheim Cup captain,' said Jones.

'The Solheim Cup has been a huge part of my career as a player, and now it will be even more exciting as I prepare for what promises to be another great Solheim Cup in Ireland.'

Jones sunk the winning putt to clinch the 2002 Solheim Cup.

She also won 12 points during her seven appearances for her country in the event and will be bidding to retain the trophy in Ireland.
