Ireland's Danielle McVeigh (Royal Co Down) won the 2009 Ladies British Open Strokeplay Championship at Royal Aberdeen, 19-21 August.
McVeigh posted rounds of 75 79 74 and 76 for a total of 302 to win by a single shot, despite trailing by five with eight holes to play, over England's Hannah Turland.
This win is amongst the biggest of McVeigh's career as she adds it to her 2007 World Student Games title and the Welsh Open Strokeplay Championship, which she won earlier this year.
Turland looked to be in control as the pair entered the last nine holes of the championship but triple bogeys at the 11th and 12th opened the door for McVeigh who seized the opportunity and played vitrually flawless golf over the closing holes.
In tough conditions and battling a strong wind while heading for the clubhouse, McVeigh dropped just one shot at the long par four 17th and with a par five at the 18th, Danielle sealed victory by one shot as a birdie for Turland was not enough to force a playoff with the Irish star.
Next week sees McVeigh travel to Sweden, along with Ireland's Sarah Cunningham (Ennis) Aedin Murphy (Carlow) and Charlene Reid (Royal Portrush) as she attempts to add the European Individual Strokeplay title to her collection.
