The Irish team of Leona Maguire (Slieve Russell), Lisa Maguire (Slieve Russell), Laura McCarthy (Muskerry) and Stephanie Meadow (Royal Portrush) have claimed first place in the qualifying stages of the Girls' European Team Championships in Finland.
A second day total of 218, which improved by three shots on a wonderful opening day's total 221, sees the girls finish on +7 for the strokeplay stages of the championship, three shots ahead of nearest rivals Spain.
Day two saw the French U21 and Scottish strokeplay champion Leona Maguire fire a blistering score of 5 under par, which included 6 birdies and just one bogey.
Sister Lisa followed with a solid two over par round of 74, while Stephanie Meadow battled hard and posted a score of 77 to secure top spot for Ireland.
Captain Sinead Keane was thrilled with her team's performance and praised their team spirit, saying: ‘It was a fantastic team effort by all the girls, they really pulled together today, with the Maguire twins caddying for Laura and Steph once they had finished.
‘I am delighted with their performance and they are all playing fantastic golf so we are really looking forward to the start of the matchplay.’
The matchplay stages of the championship commence on Thursday with Ireland taking on Belgium in the quarter finals.
Two foursomes ties in the morning followed by three singles matches in the afternoon will determine who makes it through to Friday's semi finals.
