Simon Thornton is the leading Irishman at the European Tour's qualifying school in Spain’s Arcos Gardens, lying one shot behind the leader, Spain’s Santiago Luna.
Thornton shot a five-under 67 and is level with Richard Kind from the Netherlands and England's Gareth Davies.
Luna, a veteran of more than 500 European Tour events and a winner on the circuit in 1995.
Of Ireland’s other competitors, Barrie Trainor is on one-under, Mark Campbell is level and Mark Murphy is one-over.
Chris Wood, who finished fifth at Royal Birkdale and won stage one of the qualifying school in September, fired a two-under-par 70 to share ninth place.
