Michelle Wie failed again in her latest test to try and make a cut at an PGA Tour event, struggling to an eight-over-par 80 at the Reno-Tahoe Open to finish nine shots over the projected cut.

The leader of the tournament is Parker McLachlin, who sits in the clubhouse of the Montreux Golf and Country Club at 14-under 130 after firing a 10-under 62.

A day after opening with a one-over-73, Wie appeared to be in contention to become the first female since 1945 to make a cut, taking the turn at one-over for the day after starting on the back nine.

However, the 18-year-old crashed on the back nine, being forced to settle for a double bogey on the fourth and completely falling apart on the par-four eighth with a nine.

This was Wie's eighth time playing against men on the PGA, a task that has proved to be way too difficult for the Hawaiian. In her last five tournaments with the opposite sex, Wie has gone a combined 67 shots over the cut.

Starting the second round's play in a tie for sixth, McLachlin raced up the leaderboard with a bogey-free round that included 10 birdies. The 29-year-old caught fire near the turn, notching five birdies on a six-hole stretch starting at number eight.

McLachlin's best finish on the PGA Tour is a tie for fifth, last accomplished at the AT&T Classic in May.

McLachlin owns a four-shot lead over John Merrick and Australian Nick Flanagan, who are both in the clubhouse. Merrick carded a 67 while Flanagan shot a 65.

First-round leader Jeff Overton is seven shots off the pace, sitting even through 11 holes after starting on the back nine.
