The United States defeated Britain and Ireland 11 ½ - 6 ½ in the 34th Curtis Cup match against the United States in Oregon last night.
Having trailed 7-2 overnight, the visiting team knew that if they surrendered a further two points in the foursomes America would retain the trophy.
It was a very different story from Saturday as the British and Irish captured the session two-and-a-half to a-half to only trail seven-and-a-half to four-and-a-half.
But the fightback was to ultimately prove futile, as the Americans dominated the closing singles.
