Defending champion Rory McIlroy is on course to defend his title at the Radisson West of Ireland Amateur Championship in Rosses Point after securing his place in the semi-finals with victory over Conor Doran.

In cold and wet conditions, the 17-year-old Holywood man scored an excellent 5 and 4 success over Banbridge man Doran to book a last four meeting with David Horsey from the Styal Golf Club in Cheshire.

Scrabo's Andrew McCormick and Paul O'Hanlon (Curragh) meet in the other semi-final having over come Seamus Power and Darren Crowe respectively.
