Irish amateur champion Rory McIlroy will not take part in this summer's Nissan Irish Open.

The Holywood teenager has turned down a number of invitations to professional events in order to concentrate on his amateur career.

It is understood that the 17-year-old had received offers to play at the Irish Open, British Masters and the Smurfit European Open at the K Club.

McIlroy is in action at the West of Ireland Championship at County Sligo this week, where he is looking to defend the title he won in sensational style 12 months ago.
