Korean Charlie Wi has claimed a surprise victory in the rain-shortened Maybank Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur.
The 34-year-old, from Seoul but now a resident of California, carded a final-round nine-under-par 63 to finish on 19 under after 54 holes and edge out defending champion Thongchai Jaidee by a shot.
Wi's superb final day, which saw him move up from sixth after 36 holes, included seven birdies and an eagle on the par-five fifth.
Also an expert skier and martial arts student, Wie was formerly a college star in America, trailing only Tiger Woods and Stewart Cink in the 1995 stroke average rankings.
Thailand's Jaidee needed a birdie on the final hole to force a play-off but could only par the 615-yard par five.
He closed with a six-under-par 66 that included seven birdies and a bogey at the par-three eighth.
Raphael Jacquelin, of France, was another shot back in third after a 62 while English duo Mark Foster and John Bickerton tied for fourth on 16 under after rounds of 63 and 66 respectively.
Second-round leader David Park, of Wales, could only manage a 72 and slipped back to joint-eighth alongside England's Graeme Storm.
Pre-tournament favourite Padraig Harrington finished in a tie for 13th after a 67 left him eight shots off the winner, alongside compatriot Gary Murphy.
