Germany's Alex Cejka and American Steve Lowery share the lead on six-under 65 at the 5.2 million-dollar FBR Open in Arizona.

Americans Jerry Smith, James Driscoll, Brent Geiberger and Bo Van Pelt all trail the leaders by one after one round on the par-71 TPC of Scottsdale.

Lowery started on the 10th and his front nine included a run of
four birdies in a row from No. 14, where he made a 12-foot putt.

He followed that with birdie putts of six, 12 and eight feet. He also made three birdies on his back nine, highlighted by a near-eagle from 81 yards on the third hole. Lowery settled for a tap-in birdie.

Cejka was five-under after 14 holes and caught Lowery when he nearly drove the green on the 17th. He chipped to three feet and made his birdie try.

Driscoll had a chance to grab a share of the lead, but bogeyed 18 to drop into the group on 66.

Defending champion Phil Mickelson, who also won this title in 1996, was four shots off the pace on 69.
