Ireland's Des Smyth has stormed to victory on the European Seniors Tour winning the Arcapita Seniors Tour Championship at Riffa Golf Club.

Smyth fired a third and final round of 70 to finish on ten under par and win by two strokes from Scotland's John Chillas, who had a final round of 67.

The Irishman finished with birdies on the two final holes, while Chillas bogeyed the 16th and the 17th, although like Smyth he birdied the final hole.

Smyth had two wins on the American Seniors Tour this season, but this win was his first on the European Seniors Tour.

The Louth native narrowly missed out on a Major victory earlier in the year when he was beaten by Tom Watson in a play-off for the Senior British Open Championship in July.

Gordon Brand Junior, Giuseppe Cali and Sam Torrence finished a shot further back on seven-under, while Cork's Denis O'Sullivan hit a 73 to give him a tie for 15th on two-over.

Northern Ireland's Eddie Pollard finished well adrift of the leaders on 19-over after carding a 79.

Victory for Smyth saw him finish third in the Order of Merit with earnings of €229,514.73. The money title went to Scotland's Torrance, ahead of England's Carl Mason.
