A solid par-four on the first play-off hole was enough to ensure Padraig Harrington retained his Irish PGA Championship title at Palmerstown House.
It was his third win in this tournament and the second time he has taken the title following a play-off.
Harrington bogeyed the last two holes of his round to ensure there would be a three-man playoff.
He finished on three under par for the tournament after a 73, along with overnight leader Damien McGrane and former tour player Stephen Hamill.
McGrane went head to head with Harrington over the final two days without ever looking second-best while Hamill had an excellent final day and at one stage led the tournament. He too dropped a shot at the last.
Harrington, who seemed in control with four holes to play, bogeyed three of the last four holes but a birdie on the 16th ensured his continuing involvement.
In fourth place was Headfort's Brendan McGovern who steadily recovered from his first round six-over 78 to finally finish in level par and pick up a cheque for €7,000.
Round of the day and lowest of the tournament was a 67 from Robert Giles.
