North West take senior title

Donegal club North West GC have beaten Dublin’s Hermitage GC to win the Irish Senior Cup at Rosslare.

Inspired by the British Amateur Champion Brian McElhinney and Irish International Michael McGeady, who won their matches, it was Garrett Mallon who won the deciding match.

Having been 1 down after 15, Mallon battled and went 1 hole ahead on 17.

Despite the efforts of Hermitage's Sean O'Flaherty, Mallon secured victory on the 18th green holing a 6ft putt which netted North West their first ever Senior Cup title.

The Island captured the Jimmy Bruen Shield beating Ballybunion.

Earlier in the week, the Barton Shield was won by Warrenpoint, the Pierce Purcell Shield went to Castleblayney and the Junior Cup was won by Fortwilliam.
