Defending champion Brian McElhinney today crashed out of the Irish Amateur Close Championship in Westport.
North West golfer McElhinney was beaten 2&1 by Edenderry's Ger Hall.
Remarkably, Hall only got into the matchplay stages as the last of yesterday's 64 qualifiers.
Leading qualifier Sean McTernan made it safely through to this afternoon's second round with a 2&1 win over his Co Sligo clubmate Serryth Heavey.
