Sergio Garcia made the most of a hot start to claim his first title of the year at the Booz Allen Classic.
Starting the day two shots behind Tom Kite, Garcia recorded five birdies and an eagle in his first 10 holes to surge to the top of the leaderboard.
The Spaniard had two bogeys and a birdie over his final eight holes, completing a six-under-par 65.
Garcia had a 72-hole total of 14-under 270 to finish two strokes in front of Davis Love III, Ben Crane and Adam Scott.
It was Garcia's sixth PGA Tour win and first since the 2004 Buick Classic.
In May, Garcia matched the biggest final-round collapse in PGA history when he squandered a six-shot lead before losing to Vijay Singh in a play-off at the Wachovia Championship.
Kite, who at 55 years of age was looking to become the oldest winner in the history of the PGA Tour, struggled to a three-over 74 and finished seven shots behind Garcia.
"I felt the course has been playing up to my game as the week (went) on, as it got a bit firmer," Garcia said.
"I had a good beginning. I was hitting really, really soft shots. It's an amazing course, and I said that at the beginning of the week and it has not changed."
Last year, Garcia won the Buick Classic the week before the US Open.
"I guess I have had the chance of playing great courses the week before the US Open, Westchester twice and also here at the Congressional," Garcia said.
"I am definitely looking forward to next week and hopefully I can get it going like this week and give myself a chance."
