Warrenpoint's Jim Carvill today won the East of Ireland Championship at the Co Louth course at Baltray despite having his nine-stroke lead cut dramatically during the final round.
The former professional had a nine-shot lead after 54 holes but saw it shrink to just one stroke with five holes to play as North West's Michael McGeady turned in a four-under par round of 68 this evening.
However, the enormous lead that Carvill had established proved insurmountable and the Warrenpoint man finished 17-under for the tournament.
Richard Kilpatrick of Banbridge finished in third place with nine under while West of Ireland champion Rory McIlroy finished two under.
