Portmarnock's Noel Fox was surprisingly thrashed 7 and 6 by Shandon Park's Alastair McKinley in the third round of the Irish Close Championship at Donegal Golf Club this morning.
McKinley will face 2002 winner John McGinn in this afternoon's quarter-finals after his one hole win over Robert McCarthy of the Island.
Reigning European and North of Ireland champion Brian McElhinney beat Alan Considine of Ennis 3 and 1 win and will now meet Scrabo's Andrew McCormick who had a 2 and 1 win over Mark Shanahan of West Waterford.
Leading qualifier Gareth Maybin birdied the 18th to beat Clancy Bowe by one hole and will face Mark Campbell this afternoon. Campbell made birdies at the 17th ad 18th to beat Michael Sinclair by two holes.
