Portmarnock Golf Club in North County Dublin has had its licence to sell alcohol suspended for seven days for refusing to allow women to become members of the club.
The suspension of its certificate of registration will not come into effect until after High Court proceedings.
The Equality Authority took this case to the Dublin District Court last November on the basis that the men-only membership policy at Portmarnock Golf Club was discriminatory under the terms of the Equal Status Act.
Portmarnock maintained the club was private and had the power of exclusion and, as such, was not contravening the Act.
In February, the District Court decided that the club was in breach of the Equal Status Act. The club is appealing the decision and is also challenging the constitutionality of the Act.
If the club is unsuccessful, the seven-day suspension will come into effect.
