Irish players selected for British Amatuer C'ship

The Golfing Union of Ireland has nominated seven players to compete in the British Amateur Championship, which will be played at St Andrew's Old and Jubilee Courses, from May 31 to June 5.

The seven players are: Mark Campbell (Stackstown), Darren Crowe (Dunmurry), Noel Fox (Portmarnock), Brian McElhinney (North West), Michael McGeady (North West), Gareth Maybin (Ballyclare) and Mark O'Sullivan (Galway).

The first stage of the Championship involves 288 players, each of whom play two rounds of strokeplay, one on each of the two courses.

The players with the lowest scores over the 36 holes and ties for 64th place compete in the matchplay, which commences on Wednesday June 2 over the Old Course. Each match in this second stage consists of 18 holes, except the final, which is played over 36 holes.
