Lee Westwood, who went nearly two years without a top 10 finish, incredibly recorded his second win in five weeks today. Westwood captured the Dunhill Links Championship - and its £490,000 first prize - by a stroke from world number two Ernie Els at St Andrews, a course he criticised as not among the top 200 in Fife four years ago. He has changed his mind about it since.
After slumping from fourth in the world to nearly 250th, the 30-year-old came back with victory in the BMW International Open in Munich last month and today led from the front most of the day.
His closing 67 was for a 21-under-par total of 267. Els, stretching his lead at the top of the European Order of Merit, was 20-under and Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin third at 18-under.
