Darren Clarke's 40-foot birdie putt en route to victory in the NEC world championship in Akron has won the European Tour's Royal Bank of Scotland Shot of the Month award for August. The County Tyrone man made the putt on the 13th hole of a final round which ended with him a four-stroke winner of the million dollar first prize. He was also named Golfer of the Month for the performance.
Second best shot was judged to be another putt - a 60-footer on the final green of the US PGA championship by Niclas Fasth for a share of 10th place - and third was Lee Westwood's chip-in birdie at the penultimate hole of his comeback victory in the BMW International Open in Munich.
