Waterville's Mark Murphy holed from 20 feet for an eagle at the 18th to card a course record-equalling 66 and take the lead in qualifying for the Golfsure Irish Close Championship in Tramore. Murphy also had six birdies and two bogeys in a six-under-par round to lead by one from David Ryan of the Grange. Mullingar's Des Morgan is on four-under after a 68, with John Hughes of Woodbrook, Mallow's Jimmy Walsh, Jim Mulready of the Castle and Niall Turner of Muskerry all three-under-par.
