Sabbatini leads the Colonial PGA tournament

South Africa's Rory Sabbatini leads the way at the Colonial PGA tournament after an impressive first round of a six-under-par 64, but it's Annika Sorenstam who is grabbing all the headlines.

The 32-year-old Swede, who has became the first woman to play in a PGA Tour event more than 50 years, is seven shots off the pace and claimed one birdie and two bogeys in a one-over-par 71.

Sorenstam had no trouble hitting the fairways and her tee-play was excellent, but her form on the greens let her down, as the world's leading female golfer took a massive 33 putts.

"I was a little tentative all day long, but some of these pins I thought were a little tricky. When I get a little nervous I get a little tentative and that's what happened. I kept telling myself 'hit it', and then I would hit it and suddenly I would have a long putt coming back," she said.

Sabbatini had no such problems, taking just 23 putts with his new 'belly putter'. "I've found a putter that feels good in the hands and I'm confident with. It's kind of like each day I'm out there with it I get more and more confidence," he said.

Meanwhile, Patrick Sheehan and Mark Calcavecchia both share second place on 65, while Jesper Parnevik, Sorenstam's compatriot, sits alongside Dan Forsman on 66 in fourth place.
