Ireland's No.1 amateur Colm Moriarty's purple patch continues after another podium finish in the prestigious Lytham Trophy in England. Moriarty, who is a certainty for the Walker Cup side this September, shot rounds of 70 and 71 in high winds to climb from 30th to 3rd place.
The Athlone man started poorly on Friday with an opening 5 over par 76 and shot 74 on Saturday to make the cut by one. Portmarnock's Noel Fox carded 2 rounds of 75 to finish in fourth position.
The event was won by Scotland's Stuart Wilson, who is on the Walker Cup panel alongside Moriarty, Fox and Justin Kehoe, who finished down the field at Royal Lytham & St Annes.
