Craig Barlow leads The Heritage in South Carolina after carding a six-under-par 65 to take a one-shot lead over Davis Love III and John Senden. Barlow's 28, which included a pair of eagles, came as a welcome return to form after missing three straight cuts and shooting an 80 in the last round at the BellSouth Classic.
Ten players signed for four-under 67s, including Rocco Mediate, Tom Pernice Jr, Hal Sutton and Stewart Cink. Australian Rod Pampling dropped out of a tie for second place after bogeying his final hole.
Love, who won the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in February, was the early leader in the clubhouse before Barlow raced past him. Among those at three under on 68 is Len Mattiace, who lost a play-off to Mike Weir at The Masters last week.
While Ireland's Darren Clarke remains in contention after shooting a one-under 70.
