Moriarty & Kehoe record Australia wins

Ireland's top two amateur golfers, Colm Moriarty and Justin Kehoe, both enjoyed wins in the first round of the New South Wales Matchplay Championship earlier today.

Athlone man Moriarty beat his Chinese opponent 3 and 2, whil Kehoe easily progressed 7 and 6 against an Australian qualifier. They are now into the last 16 of this prestigious event in which each match is contested over 36 holes.

Both men are fancied to win places on this year's Walker Cup team. Great Britain and Ireland will be hoping for a 3 in a row of victories against the Americans in this biennial tournament which takes place at Ganton in September.
