England's Steven Cowle today qualified in second behind Italy's Francesco Guermani for the final of the European Tour school. Guermani topped the stage two standings at the PGA Golf de Catalunya in north-east Spain by carding a final-round four-under-par 68 to win by four shots from Cowle and his fellow Italian Alberto Binaghi.
Belfast's former British amateur champion Michael Hoey finished a further four shots back - while Hertfordshire's Jamie Little also squeezed through as the 32nd and final qualifier after coming through a sudden-death play-off.
At Peralada, first-round leader James Hepworth continued to set the pace after posting a five-under-par 67 for a 14-under total of 130. The Yorkshireman led by one from Sweden's Mattias Nilsson and Australian amateur Marcus Fraser, whose 65 included an albatross at the par-five fourth.
After the delays caused by high winds earlier in the week, 80 players will play a third and final round tomorrow. The third round will also be the last at St Cyprien on the French border after the second rounds were finally completed today.
Ireland's Stephen Browne led the field on a two-under 144, one ahead of Norwegian amateur Jan Are Larsen.
The six-round Qualifying School final begins on Friday at the Pals and Emporda clubs in north-east Spain.
