Irish amateurs make disappointing start

The Irish team has made a disappointing start to the World Amateur Golf Championships in Kuala Lumpur. The Irish are currently joint 28th on seven over par. USA are in the lead on seven under par. Colm Moriarty was the best scorer for Ireland with a two over par 74. Ireland are also being represented by Noel Fox and world universities champion Justin Kehoe.

Competitors are playing one round on each of the four days with the best two scores counting each day towards the total. This is the first time that Ireland has competed as a separate entity, having previously competed as part of a joint Great Britain and Ireland team.
