The USPGA are set to name their new Ryder Cup captain tomorrow, with Hal Sutton firmly in the frame to succeed Curtis Strange. Sutton, who was an American team member during Europe's recent triumph at the Belfry, is believed to have held talks with USPGA officials last week and in the past he has been quite open on his ambition to captain the American side.
Sutton insists that he is more that ready for the responsibility of the captaincy, and said: "The neat part about that is you're in a big enough position that everybody not making that decision can sit around and criticise you. If you're afraid to be second-guessed, you better not make any decisions."
"Making Ryder Cup teams, whether as a player or a captain, is what you strive to do when you're young or old," he added.
