Jim Furyk fired a six-under-par 65 to tie with Charles Howell III for the lead after the second round of the 90-hole Invensys Classic in Las Vegas. Furyk had six birdies in another bogey-free day at the TPC at The Canyons to reach 12-under 131, an aggregate stroke lower than Howell after playing the only par-71 layout in the three-course rotation on Thursday.
Furyk is seeking his eighth career victory this weekend and he is already a multiple winner at this event, having claimed the title in 1995, 1998 and 1999.
Howell, the PGA Tour's reigning Rookie of the Year fired a a seven-under 65 that included an eagle and five birdies at the Southern Highlands Golf Club course. Howell celebrated his first Tour victory last weekend at the Michelob Championship.
In joint third place on 11-under after the second day of action in Las Vegas is the first round co-leader Steve Jones along with Chris DiMarco, Jeff Sluman, Frank Lickliter and Michael Clark.
