Garcia takes Canaries title

Sergio Garcia has won the Canarias Open de Espana to net his first professional victory on home soil. The Spaniard saw an overnight five-shot lead cut in today's fourth round but he still managed to win with four shots to spare from Italy's Emanuele Canonica. Garcia carded a one over par round of 73 today to finish on 13 under for the tournament, with Canonica on nine under after a 72.

England's Greg Owen was one shot further back in third place on eight under par, one ahead of Sweden's Carl Pettersson and Spanish teenager Rafel Cabrera – who equalled the best ever performance by an amateur on the European Tour.

Argentine Ricardo Gonzalez and Swede Anders Forsbrand finished in joint sixth place on five under par, one ahead of South African Retief Goosen and Briton David Gilford.
