David Howell, unable to play for Britain and Ireland in this week's Seve Trophy match in Ireland because of a broken left forearm suffered when he tripped over jogging, does not expect to return now until the Volvo PGA championship at Wentworth on May 23-26.
"Initially I was thinking I might be back for the Benson & Hedges (at The Belfry on May 9-12), but it does not look like it now," said the Swindon 26-year-old. "I've just got to be patient. I was in a sling for only five days, which made me think I might not be out for too long, but it's still quite painful in certain positions, especially when I rotate it."
"At least I've been told I should make a full recovery. If the break had been two inches higher and in my elbow it would have been an absolute nightmare," Howell added. "I also took some of the impact of the fall on my wrist and I'm lucky I didn't do more damage to that."
Howell's place against Continental Europe went to Scotland's Andrew Oldcorn.
