Nick O'Hern remains in the lead after the second round of the £630,000 Caltex Singapore Masters at Laguna. The Australian carded a 71 to add to his opening round 64 and leads by just one stroke from American Jim Johnson.
Faldo, who was making his first appearance in Singapore since he won the Johnnie Walker Classic there in nine years ago, carded a 69 and is one of three players who are two shots off the pace in joint third position. The 44-year-old birdied two of the last three holes to leave himself well-placed ahead of the third round.
"I actually played better today than yesterday and had quite a few chances. I hit a good putt on 10 that went right around the hole, left it short on 11 by an inch, so I had to be patient and grind on and made the day by holing two big putts on seven and nine," said Faldo.
"On the ninth I was unhappy hitting driver and just decelerated and pulled it way left, and was just aiming to get it on the blooming green. It was a good 40ft, a snaky putt and a good one to hole. I think it will be a little bit tricky this afternoon and if the wind gets up I might be in with a shout, at least I'll be in the last couple of groups – 36 holes is a long way to go," he added.
