Colin Montgomerie will undergo a scan on his injured back in the next two days after being forced to pull out of the Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth yesterday. Mongomerie returns to Britain today and will immediately seek the advice of a specialist before a scan either tomorrow or Monday.
Montgomerie withdrew from the Johnnie Walker Classic in the 12th hole of his second round and claimed: "I don't think I will be back for a long time." But business manager Guy Kinnings today insisted the 38-year-old was right to ithdraw as a precaution and claimed Montgomerie is hopeful the injury is not as serious as initially feared.
"He'll come back to see the medics and then hopefully he'll then be able to crack on with the season," Kinnings said. "It's the early part of the season so he did the right thing to be precautionary but he is hopeful."
